Paris: an ambulance driver allegedly abused four doctors and a nurse from the Smur de Beaujon

A 49-year-old man was indicted on Friday in for “rape and sexual assault” before being imprisoned. This paramedic is suspected of having, between October 2020 and March 2021, abused five female doctors or nurses who worked with him in the emergency department of Beaujon hospital.

The case began several months ago when a young doctor walked through the door of the police station to file a rape complaint. This woman, aged 29, works within the mobile emergency and resuscitation structure (SMUR) of Beaujon in (Hauts-de-Seine).

On a daily basis, she helps the sick and injured on the roads of the Paris region. She recounts this horrible evening, organized at her home on Boulevard Mac Donald in Paris in the 19th arrondissement. At the end of 2020, she invited her colleagues and this bald man allegedly took advantage of her alcoholism to rape her.

Investigators from the second judicial police district are responsible for carrying out the investigations. The officials questioned the forty-year-old’s colleagues and discovered that four other women, three doctors and a nurse, aged 31 to 38, had been forced by the same man. “His method is always the same,” specifies a source close to the matter. It takes action during festive evenings during which its prey have consumed alcohol or drugs. When these women were no longer able to resist him, he kissed them, touched them or abused them.”

Last Wednesday, the suspect who lives in Oise was summoned to the premises of the Parisian judicial police before being placed in police custody. During the hearings, the forty-year-old confirmed that he had intimate relationships with the complainants who worked with him. “He denies the facts of rape and sexual assault,” explains a source close to the case. The paramedic brings up the conspiracy theory. “For him, it’s revenge,” adds this same source. These women would have agreed to make him pay for his too-easy tongue, because he would have boasted of his conquests in his professional circle.”

His lawyer, Me Julien Roelens, specifies that “presenting his client as a serial sex offender or a predator is a risky and totally premature certainty. The complaints were filed several years after the alleged attacks, concomitantly by people belonging to the same group of friends, and who in the meantime had continued to frequent the respondent. At this stage the file does not allow us to rule out the theory of a cabal, and his word has no less value than that of the complainants.”

This is an atypical affair to say the least. Doctors are sometimes accused of rape by their patients or colleagues. But in this specific case, the number of victims and their profession makes it a case like no other.
