A telephone platform dedicated to wildlife
Hedgehogs, swallows, gulls, pigeons, these are the most affected species according to Olivier Retail, Director of the League for the Protection of Birds, who states that the most affected species remain the birdsat 80%.
The goal of this platform is to provide answers to discoverers of injured animals. Hearing their fears too. Sometimes they are asked to send photos to see if the animal is really injured and trigger repatriation.
To operate this platform, three people work there all year round with seasonal reinforcement of two people between April and the end of September.
Overwhelmed health centers
This technological platform, SOS Faune Sauvage Bretagne, was born from a observation that of a surcharge of the care centers Bretons. Too many calls overloaded the teams who could no longer focus enough on the care to be provided. This is thanks to important European funds that the telephone structure will therefore see the light of day on May 6, 2024 and will be able to experiment with this project until 2027. Supported by the Brittany Region, Terres de Nataé and the LPO, the partners hope to unite and be able to perpetuate the project.
Figures that match the need
Since the number was set up, the platform has already processed 9,300 callsof which 65% concerned wildlife in distress. Among his requests, 3,000 calls required support. The repatriations will have enabled the rescue of 134 animals. Figures that demonstrate the extent of the need.
We are calling on all public and private stakeholders, because we need funding to create care centers, but also to ensure the sustainability of our action. The ideal would be one care center per department.
