It is often in the spring that the Vignon-en-Quercy twinning committee receives its Alsatian friends from Rombach-le-Franc. They arrived by bus on May 7. The next day, May 8, everyone gathered at the war memorial, to commemorate the victory of May 8, 1945. This was an opportunity for the mayor of Rombach-le-Franc, Jean Luc Fraichard, to recall that the Lot was a land of welcome for many Alsatians fleeing their region, devastated by the war. Marielle Alary, mayor of Vignon-en-Quercy, salutes the friendship between the Alsatians and the Lotois, present well before the 31 years of twinning. To symbolize this friendship, a couple from Alsace and a couple from Quercynois, all four in their beautiful regional costumes, went to join the two mayors.

Thursday May 9 was dedicated to visiting the industry museum in Le Lardin-Saint-Lazare, in Dordogne, in the old school. After a good meal in Sarlat, guided tour of the town. On Friday evening, a dancing meal was hosted by Quercy-Mélodie.

Then Sunday morning arrives, the day of departure for Alsace, it’s always a little sad to leave. In 2025, the Lotois will be received by their Alsatian friends. It has been this way for 31 years, generations succeed one another, the friendship continues, and everyone’s wish is that it continues.
