Follow Succeeding in Périgord
After the Dordogne Libre, a few weeks ago, it was the turn of the Essor Sarladais to celebrate its 80th anniversary. For the occasion, the newspaper, whose premises are located in Sarlat-la-Canéda, opened its doors on October 4 to visitors curious to discover behind the scenes of the title. Local elected officials also made the trip to salute this beautiful age. These visitors were able to appreciate an exhibition of the different “Front pages” which have marked the 80 years of the newspaper. Tours of the newspaper’s printing works were also offered.
The opportunity to see the technological evolution of the newspaper. On site, they were welcomed by some of the employees but also and above all by the Delpech couple, who took over the newspaper in 1981.
A less arduous job
The arrival of the internet and the rise of PDFs have enabled employees to send the newspaper directly to the printing house, without having to travel. “I must say that I have known everything about the evolution of the production of a newspaper. The job as I knew it no longer exists, but that’s fine because it’s still less painful. What is also positive is to see that the technical evolution of the newspaper comes from all the professions that make up our title”the former manager is satisfied. From now on, it is managed by his son, Jean-Michel, and his granddaughter, Chloé.
