Arrival in France aboard the Belem, at Marseilleon May 8, 2024, the Olympic flame will travel across the country over 68 stages, until July 26, the date of the opening of the Paris Olympic Games. In total, some 10,000 people, celebrities and anonymous alike, will take turns carrying the torch to the Tuileries, where the Olympic cauldron will remain ablaze during the Olympics. This Thursday, May 30, is the Calvados that she is going to survey, with an arrival at Caenat the end of the day.
The flame arrives at Omaha Beach
In Calvados, these are 178 people who will participate in this relay, over seven steps. Some were designated by the communities (State, Department, cities), others by the event’s partners (Banque Populaire, Caisse d’Épargne, Coca-Cola) or even by their sports federation. The others, the majority, are done by the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games (COJO).
As a symbol a few days before the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Landing, the flame will arrive in the department by sea, in front of the Signal monument on Omaha Beach, before going up to the American cemetery of Colleville-sur-Mer. It will then crisscross Calvados passing, in order, through Lisieux, Cabourg-Dives-sur-Mer-Houlgate, Honfleur, Bayeux, Falaise and finally Caen. The day will end with the lighting of the Cauldron, on the esplanade of Caen Town Hall.
