At the end of the suspense, Aubusson wins the Creuse Cup against Guéret

In a match that was uncertain from start to finish, the Aubusson team managed to get rid of Guéret after a penalty shootout this Saturday evening at the Léo-Lagrange stadium. She won the 2024 Creuse Cup, the ninth in its history and thus completed a fully successful season after moving up to Regional 2.

They all expected it. Each of the players knew that this final match of the Creuse Cup was going to be undecided from start to finish. This, despite the two divisions between Guéret playing in Regional 1 and Aubusson in Regional 3.

A sluggish match

Although the Yellow and Blue controlled the game at the start of the match by posting the first shot on target in the 18th minute, Aubusson, well in place defensively, took advantage of each counter-attack to worry the Guérétois goalkeeper. Like Cissé who aimed his first shot at the near left post (32nd).

But until the break, neither team managed to find real solutions to open the scoreboard. Upon returning from the locker room, everything remained to be done between the Guéretois who were keen to end their season on a positive note after relegation from Regional 1 to Regional 2 and the Aubussonnais wanting to complete a full season which was rewarded by a promotion to Regional 3 at Regional 2.Nearly 1,000 people gathered at the Léo-Lagrange stadium to watch the Creuse Cup final between Guéret and Aubusson.

Returning from the locker room, the match seemed just as uncertain despite the domination of Vincent Sotteau’s Guérétois players. It was only in the 62nd minute that Marques freed his team’s play by finally scoring the first goal of the match (1-0, 62nd). An Aubussonnaise clearance error allowed the Guérétois striker to send his powerful shot into the back of the net. But immediately, in the following situation, Nury tried to equalize with a low shot well caught by the Guérétois goalkeeper.

An equalizer in the 87th

Then time passed. Thanks to the Guérétois who were, however, worried on several occasions by shots on target from Aubusson. Without success, but only for a time…

Guéret’s victory seemed certain, but the slowness of his goalkeeper on a clearance gave Aubusson a final opportunity to turn the tide of the match. The match referee whistled an indirect free kick into the Guérét area. With a shot low to the ground, Nury deceived the Guérétois goalkeeper, Pierre-Manceau, and equalized (1-1, 87th). An Aubussonnais goal which then restarted the whole match.

Until the end of overtime, neither team was able to decide between them.

In overtime, neither team managed to gain the upper hand over the other. Heading to the penalties, Guéret could bite his fingers. Two failures from Guémas and Suard in front of the goals gave victory to the Aubusson team, whose very prolific Cissé had just confirmed with the final shot on goal which went into the back of the net.

After a fully successful season having achieved a promotion to Regional 2, the Aubussonnais managed to finish it in the most beautiful way by winning the 2024 Creuse Cup. At the end of the suspense.
