Double Formula 1 World Champion in 2005 and 2006 with Renault, Fernando Alonso would divide his starting number by two in exchange for an additional world title.

This weekend, ahead of the United States Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso looked back on his career, as he approaches the milestone of 400 engagements in . A record longevity since the native of Oviedo is currently in his 21st season of Formula 1. However, he would do well without this statistic and would prefer to have more world titles under his belt.

I would love to do half of the 400 races and win one more championship”, said Fernando Alonso.

Returning to this impressive number of departures, he declared: “That’s obviously good, and I recognize the number, but some of these stats don’t really interest you.”

For Fernando Alonso, this longevity is proof of his “love for sport and the discipline that I have tried to apply at a very high level for more than 20 years.

If the Spanish driver seems tireless, he nevertheless assures that he will obviously not reach the milestone of 800 races, but is giving himself a few more seasons… perhaps to win one more title?

I’m not looking forward to the next 400, because that will never happen, but at least 40 or 50 more over the next two years.”

More comfortable F1 cars

Now 43 years old, Fernando Alonso explains to us which areas of the body are most used today in F1. “It’s not good for the back, for the neck, for the spine.” Adding, however, that technology has made F1 cars more comfortable. “I think the technology in Formula 1 has also changed in the past and I think the cars are now a bit friendlier to the driver.”

The only physically stressful or demanding part of the weekend is normally qualifying, and it is very short.”, added the Aston Martin driver. “So it’s not a problem to keep up with young people in terms of physical condition. It’s more mental that it happens.”
