Winter walk, start of a world race… Vendée at the heart of the new Voyages à l’Ouest

Like every four years, this year the Vendée hosts the start of the Vendée Globe, in Les Sables-d’Olonne. At the time of this legendary solo, non-stop sailing trip around the world, all eyes are on this territory and the handful of sailors engaged in this crazy race around the globe. So why not go further and discover, now, this west-facing department?

This is what the 14 offerse bimonthly issue Travels to the West published by Ouest-, which will be on sale on newsstands from October 19 to December 18, 2024 and also available in digital version.

Take out the mainsail

A journey from Sables-d’Olonne to Noirmoutier, between sardine fishermen, wine growers, oyster farmers and kitesurfers, between land and sea, between salt and potatoes, reveals the unique and endearing character of this part of Vendée. Travels to the West also gives you advice and tips for living well, on site, this 10e edition of the Vendée Globe. The last departure was held behind closed doors, due to Covid-19.

Clearly, the wind is all the destinations of this invigorating number. In Saint-Malo firstly, for a weekend which inevitably promises to be iodized and perhaps under the sign of culture if you stay there from October 25 to 27, 2024 during the Quai des Bulles comic book festival.

Then on the edge of the White Sea, an astonishing coastal lagoon Fouesnant in Finistère South. A natural space, a spot for migratory birds, which lives to the rhythm of the tides, protected by a long dune barrier.

Romantic and dynamic weekend

In North Cotentin, in Valognes, for an epicurean break in a romantic and charming setting.

In South Morbihan, in Plouhinec, to move in the waves all year round, with the regulars of Marc, Youenn and Youna’s aquagym classes at sea. A golden family that happily welcomes curious visitors.

Travels to the Westit is also, for this 14e number, an artistic parenthesis to in a new ceramic café and a humorous walk in the footsteps of Raymond Savignac, the favorite poster artist of Trouville-sur-Mer.
