The Society for the Protection of Forests Against Fire (SOPFEU), in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests (MRNF), is supporting Manitoba and Alberta, which are struggling with several forest fires. Thus, a SOPFEU representative and a section of 20 forest firefighters will be deployed in Manitoba, and an information officer will be deployed in Alberta. The departure took place yesterday, bound for Western Canada.

As a signatory of theCanadian Forest Fire Mutual Aid Agreement, the Government of Quebec helps its Canadian partners by making resources available. SOPFEU and its members fully support these cooperative efforts.

The situation prevailing in Quebec and SOPFEU’s operational capabilities allow it to lend resources to its colleagues in other provinces without harming its ability to intervene on Quebec territory.

Since the start of the protection season in Quebec, the 96 fires fought in intensive protection zones have affected 105.5 hectares of forest. SOPFEU invites the population to be extra careful during this spring period, when conditions are often conducive to the outbreak of fires.
