The Ministry of the Environment, the Fight against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks (MELCCFP) and the Public Procurement Authority (AMP) have signed a collaboration memorandum of understanding which will allow for more effective intervention against environmental offenses which go against the rules governing public procurement.

This protocol provides for the sharing of information between the two organizations to enable them to act in a concerted manner. On the one hand, the MELCCFP will be able to crack down on illegal activities taking place in environmental matters and, on the other hand, the AMP will be able to intervene with companies that do not meet the integrity requirements to which the population is entitled. to expect, and to ensure compliance with the execution of the contracts provided for in the tender documents.

The protocol will also allow the two organizations to share information on:

  • Individuals, groups and companies with or without links to organized crime;
  • Stratagems, trends or new phenomena of interest to both organizations;
  • Good practices regarding information gathering, databases, memorandums of understanding, surveys, etc.

This partnership is part of a MELCCFP Environmental Control approach aimed at combating environmental offenses even more effectively, including organized and lucrative crime which causes damage to the environment, particularly in the contaminated soil and waste residue industry. construction, renovation and demolition (CRD). For its part, the AMP may require companies that benefit from public contracts to put forward corrective measures, exclude them from public contracts for a period of five years or even impose financial administrative sanctions on them.

Remember that Environmental Control also established a memorandum of understanding with the Anti-Corruption Commissioner (CLCC) last July.

The MELCCFP is thus intensifying its partnership actions in addition to continuing its numerous interventions in terms of inspections and legal and administrative appeals in order to better prevent and sanction breaches of environmental legislation.
