Belgium: The Pairi Daiza animal park announces two new births!

Births are increasing at the Belgian animal park Pairi Daiza this year. After the monkeys, rhinos, deer and even rabbits at the zoo, It’s a female mara who gave birth to two little ones last weekend. The park announced their birth yesterday on its social networks.

Visitors will not be able to see these new animals for the moment, since they are still very fragile and must remain out of sight, close to their mother. Maras are large rodents native to Argentina, resembling hares or guinea pigs.. They are also nicknamed “Patagonian Hare” or “Pampas Hare”. They can measure up to 75 centimeters. After the capybara and the beaver, the mara is the third largest rodent. Once very abundant, the mara population is declining in Argentina. These births are therefore very important for the species.
