Two departments of Occitanie on orange alert for an episode in the Cévennes

After the heavy rains of last week, a new Cévennes episode will take place during the night of Tuesday to Wednesday. It could cause significant amounts of rain on the terrain.

By Wednesday October 16 at the end of the day, accumulations of around 10 to 30 mm are expected, locally 50 mm on the plains, Aubrac and Margeride, on the sidelines of the episode, 120 to 150 mm widespread on the Cévennes relief and occasionally up to 250 mm on the Aigoual massif and the Mont Lozère.

Weather therefore launched a vigilance orange for two departments of , the Gard and the Lozerecalling this meteorological event a “classic autumn episode”.

Cévennes episode: Gard and Lozère on the front line

In the first part of next night, a first rain-stormy spell will affect the departments of Gard and Lozère on orange alert. “It is at the end of this rainy-stormy period that the rains cling to the Cévennes relief and gain intensity. They then persist, sometimes intensely, for many hours”specifies Météo France.

These rains will weaken significantly by midday on Wednesday “but uncertainties remain about the end of the heaviest rains” notes the forecasting body.

Uncertainties also exist about the extent of the rain-flood risk. “An extension of vigilance therefore remains possible, particularly in PACA”specifies Météo France, which also estimates that a change to orange in the Ardèche department “is not excluded either”.
