Annie Genevard, the Minister of Agriculture, assures Monday November 18 on France Bleu Besançon that France “strives to constitute a veto minority“on the free trade agreement between the European Union and the Latin American countries of Mercosur, which must be signed before the end of the year.”There is intense diplomatic work being done today (…) to bring together a certain number of countries [européens]“, adds the minister. To block the agreement, France must rally at least four member states representing more than 35% of the European population.

This treaty is the last straw that pushed farmers to bring out the tractors to mobilize since Sunday at the call of the FNSEA and Young Farmers. By signing this free trade agreement, the EU will notably allow the importation of beef which does not meet European standards.

Farmers are also demanding that all commitments, made last winter after a large-scale mobilization for a decent income and a simplification of standards, be kept. On this point, the Minister of Agriculture ensures that her administration “sous tension“so that decisions are made”quickly implemented“.

Annie Genevard recalls that the 2025 budget provides “300 million euros in tax relief” and have put in place “emergency fund to compensate animal deaths“. “We will keep the commitment to agricultural pension reform, taking into account the best 25 years“, assures the minister.

Annie Genevard also promises “cash flow support through short and medium-long term loans“. “And then we started work on simplification“, assures the minister to respond to the demands of the agricultural world.”It takes time for all these measures to arrive in farmyards“, warns the Minister of Agriculture.
