Mohammed VI calls for a UN resolution on the Sahara conflict

Mohammed VI takes a step forward to consolidate the territorial integrity of Morocco with the Sahara under its sovereignty on the international stage and calls on the member countries of the UN Security Council, such as and the United States, and Spain, a friendly country well aware of the hidden dynamics of the Sahara question, as well as brotherly Arab and African countries, to support international efforts aimed at resolving the conflict. He underlines that the Alawite monarch asks all Moroccans to continue their efforts, their mobilization and their vigilance, with greater coordination of institutions, to defend by all means the justness of the cause of the southern provinces and thwart the maneuvers of the opponents.

Mohammed VI is aware of the great achievements made in recent years with positive developments within the United Nations in favor of the rule of law and legitimacy through the recognition of Morocco’s historic rights.

It is very significant that Mohammed VI publicly supports three key countries for the resolution of the conflict at the United Nations: the United States, France and Spain.

On his arrival at Parliament, the King saluted the national colors to the sound of the national anthem, before reviewing a detachment of the Royal Guard who paid tribute to him. Before accessing the official platform, Mohammed VI greeted, from the balcony of Parliament, the crowd gathered in the surrounding streets and delivered a speech to the members of the two Houses of Parliament, in which the Sovereign discussed the latest developments of the question of the Moroccan Sahara, “considered by all Moroccans as their first national cause”.

He welcomed, on this occasion, the position of the French Republic which supports the sovereignty of Morocco over the entire territory of the Sahara and which supports the autonomy initiative within the framework of the territorial integrity of Morocco , as the only basis for resolving this artificial regional conflict.

This positive development, which favors the rule of law and legitimacy through the recognition of Morocco’s historical rights, is supported by an important country, which has the status of permanent member of the Security Council and is recognized as an influential actor on the international scene,” declared the Sovereign.

He supported the efforts made within the framework of the United Nations to lay the foundations of a political process leading to a definitive settlement of this issue within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, he continued.

The Sovereign also welcomed the recognition of influential countries, also permanent members of the Security Council, such as the United States of America and France, as well as the position of friendly Spain, which is well aware of the hidden sources of this question, and whose position has strong political and historical resonances. “The same can be said of most countries in the European Union,” said the monarch.

“We are also proud of the positions of brotherly Arab and African countries, which support the territorial integrity of the Kingdom in a very clear and responsible manner, in particular those which have opened consulates in Laayoune and Dakhla,” he added. The King took this opportunity to affirm that “the next step requires all of us to strengthen our mobilization and our vigilance in order to sustainably consolidate the position of our country, and it is important to continue to defend the justice of our cause and to thwart the maneuvers of our adversaries.

In this regard, it is necessary to explain the foundations of Morocco’s position to the small number of countries which continue to go against the logic of law and deny the facts of history, noted Mohammed VI, emphasizing that we must, at the same time, work to convince them of the legitimacy of the Moroccan Sahara with numerous legal, political, historical and spiritual proofs and arguments.

This approach requires the combined efforts of all official, partisan and civil national institutions and bodies, and the strengthening of their coordination, in order to give the necessary effectiveness to their action and their mobilizations, he said. He called on both chambers of Parliament for greater coordination in this regard, by creating appropriate internal structures with qualified profiles and applying the criteria of competence and specialization in the choice of delegations, both for bilateral meetings and for participation in regional and international forums.

The sovereign reaffirmed that “Morocco will remain firm in its positions and faithful to the spirit of openness to its Maghreb and regional environment, thus contributing to the common development of the peoples of the region, as well as to their security and stability. “.
