A week after the mortar attacks on an establishment in Vénissieux and its staff, it was the Auguste Lumière high school in the 8th arrondissement of which was targeted this Thursday morning.

A tense start to the morning in front of the Auguste and Louis Lumière high school in Lyon. Fireworks mortars were fired in front of the establishment in the 8th arrondissement, according to information from LyonMag confirmed at Figaro by several well-informed sources. A teacher was injured, specifies the new Minister for Academic Success and Vocational Education, Alexandre Portier. Trash cans were also set on fire, before the rapid intervention of the police. A group of around fifteen individuals was identified as being behind this violence.

“The prefecture is monitoring the situation with the rectorate and firmly condemns this violence which will not go unanswered”informed the entourage of Fabienne Buccio, the prefect of Rhône. At this stage, no arrests have been made. A reinforced police presence in front of the establishment was announced for the rest of the day. “The rectorate’s mobile security team was dispatched to the site for support”added the prefect on the social network

For his part, the delegate minister and former deputy for Rhône, Alexandre Portier, denounced “new unacceptable violence against our school”. “I give all my support to this teacher, the teams and the students. We must all unite behind our School, for our agents, but also for all students in .”

Other attacks in high schools in eastern Lyon

This damage comes just one week after the mortar fire that occurred in front of the Marcel Sembat high school in Vénissieux last Thursday. Shooting accompanied by stone throwing which had targeted the building but also the staff of the establishment. Trash cans and a car were set on fire. Two minors aged 16 and 17 were quickly arrested, indicted and placed under judicial supervision.

The unions subsequently denounced a lack of staff in the ranks of National Education. In several high schools in eastern Lyon located in disadvantaged neighborhoods, teachers went on strike at the end of September after the attack on one of them. The unions were already talking about holding several disciplinary councils barely a month after the start of the school year.
