After traveling 1,600 kilometers by bicycle to visit several schools across Quebec, Candiac businessman Luc Poirier takes on the challenge of making a grand tour of Canada, from Vancouver to Magog. The funds raised will go to the Bruny Surin Foundation and the Christian Vachon Foundation, which both help young people.

“I always like to surpass myself and it’s going to be a challenge for next year,” he says. It’s completely crazy because it’s around 5,400 km and I’m going to try to do this crossing in three weeks. Maybe it will take me three and a half or four weeks. We will try to leave in mid-August and finish at the end of September.”

The real estate developer took part from September 2 to 14 in a cycling event entitled Grand tour d’écoles.

He cycled several kilometers to visit schools across the province, notably in Longueuil, and helped raise nearly $200,000 for the Bruny Surin Foundation and the Christian Vachon Foundation.

The mission of the Bruny Surin Foundation is to ensure that “the basic needs of young people are met and that they have access to quality sports infrastructure so that all young people can benefit from the benefits of a healthy and healthy lifestyle. active,” we specify in a press release.

The objective of the Christian Vachon Foundation, for its part, is to support development, perseverance and academic success. They offer clothing, school supplies, meals, as well as cultural and sporting activities.

“We always try to aim bigger, but it’s going to be a challenge to raise funds [lors du grand tour du Canada] because we are going to spend fewer days in Quebec, admits Luc Poirier. For example, collecting money in Manitoba will be difficult, since we are not known there.”

“As with the Grand Tour d’écoles, we will end this crossing in Magog to participate in the Christian Vachon Foundation event to tour Lake Memphremagog,” he informs.

How to prepare for it?

Luc Poirier believes that it will require a lot of training before embarking on the grand tour of Canada. The latter admits to having had some ailments after the Big School Tour.

He participated in the Canada Man/Woman Xtri World Tour, a long-distance triathlon that included a 3.8 km swim, 180 km bike ride and 42 km run, in Lac-Mégantic on October 6.

“The Canada Man/Woman Xtri World Tour organization invited me because they saw that I had done so much for the cause with the Grand School Tour and I said ‘yes’ straight away , he says. In a short period of time, between two events, many would refuse, taking time to recover.”
