Archaic, under-resourced, slow and not very transparent, and, therefore, inefficient. This is the observation made by the Court of Auditors on Thursday regarding the Geneva Commission for the Monitoring of Health Professions and Patient Rights (CSPSDP). This control body examines denunciations and complaints and can, after investigating the facts, impose sanctions, such as warnings, reprimands or fines of up to 50,000 francs. If a definitive or temporary withdrawal of a doctor’s right to practice is recommended, it is up to the supervisory State Councilor to decide, by issuing an order.

It is also Pierre Maudet, head of the Department of Health and Mobility (DSM), who asked, at the end of 2023, the Court of Auditors to examine the functioning of the commission. He took this initiative a few weeks after issuing an order lowering the sanction against a gynecologist. This controversial decision, revealed in September by the show Really of the RTS, was taken against the opinion of the commission and especially of the Federal Court which considered the temporary suspension of the right to practice “obvious” due to the long list of failings noted by this gynecologist.
