Millas drama: the bus driver evacuated by the firefighters, in tears after the children’s testimonies during her appeal trial

The appeal trial of the Millas tragedy continues this Wednesday, October 9 at the Aix-en-Provence court. The bus driver, Nadine Oliveira, is on trial for “homicide and involuntary injury”. The hearing had to be interrupted after the testimonies of four children, present on the bus on the day of the tragedy.

The driver of the school bus who hit a train in Millas in 2017 is currently on appeal in Aix-en-Provence. She was evacuated by emergency services this Wednesday October 9 at midday, indicates the Independent.

This Wednesday morning, on the stand, four child passengers on the bus on December 14, 2017, testified. They are survivors of the Millas tragedy, which cost the lives of six schoolchildren and left 17 injured, in a collision between their bus and a train on a level crossing.

“For four years, the sound of the horn in my head”

While the driver maintains that the barriers were open, the testimonies of these survivors call her version into question. When the bus and train collided, Enzo was performing a magic trick on Ophelia, who died that day. “It was when I heard the sound of the train horn that I turned my head.” “It was really a deafening noise.“, he explained this Wednesday in court, cited by the Independent.

“Having had the sound of the horn in her head for 4 years, it’s impossible that she didn’t hear it, unless her brain did a major sorting thing”he said.

Among the testimonies, there are also those of Alicia and Iness, who both expect an apology from the driver, without expressing anger to her.

Called to the stand in turn, Nadine Oliveira maintained her version: “They want me to apologize and admit a mistake but I didn’t make a mistake. The barriers were open”. Questioned by the court, the driver burst into tears. “She was open, she was open”she maintains, unable to continue. The hearing was suspended and Nadine Oliveira evacuated by the firefighters.

The hearing is scheduled to continue at 1:30 p.m.
