Le cyclone tropical Kirk has turned into a depression at our latitude but remains no less threatening. “It’s going to blow well tonight,” confirms Dean Gill, forecaster at MétéoSuisse. A degree 2 strong wind warning has been issued by the station, which forecasts wind gusts of 70 to 90 km/h this Wednesday evening.

Rain will also be there, with precipitation of 20 to 40 millimeters during the night. The Chablais region of Valais and Vaud will be particularly affected. In the canton of Vaud, the wind gusts will nevertheless be less impressive, around 50-60 km/h.

Little rain and no strong winds in Geneva

The Geneva region will be more spared with only 10 to 15 millimeters of rain and will not experience strong winds. Dean Gill also specifies that “in Switzerland, we are on the fringes of the depression, unlike France which is at the center of it. The winds will therefore be mainly concentrated in the region tonight.”

Twenty-four French departments are in fact placed on orange vigilance for “rain-flooding”, ten for “wind” and two for floods, Météo-France alert.

But the disruption will be short-lived. “As of tomorrow morning, it will be behind us,” reassures the forecaster. The weather will still be a little cloudy and rainy at the start of the morning, then it will give way to “partly sunny and cooler weather”. In the plains, temperatures will be between 12 and 17°C the rest of the day.
