Grandvilliers high school students collect nearly 90kg of waste

Friday October 4, the Jules Verne high school once again took part in the Clean Up Nature operation. The high school students collected nearly 90kg of waste in the streets of Grandvilliers.

For more than ten years now, students from the Jules Verne high school have spent a morning each year collecting waste in the streets of Grandvilliers.

Train eco-citizens

This trains students, future citizens, to adopt an eco-citizen approach and environmentally friendly behavior. We work in partnership with the City of Grandvilliers and the high school is continuing its approach to sustainable development education. In the four corners of Grandvilliers

On Friday, October 4, there were 34 people, from the Terminale CAP PSR (Catering Service production), Second CAP Accompanying Agent for Old Ages (AAGA) and Third Preparatory Careers classes, to participate in this morning and in the breakfast planned in advance by high school.

They cleaned the surroundings of the high school, the streets of Coquelicots, of , of , of the small speed, the eco-district, Place Barbier, the train station, around the McDonald’s and along the Le Must restaurant.

All this, supervised by five teachers, including one from PE who went around by bike in order to gradually unload the students from bulky items and heavy and bulky glass bags, and by the sorting ambassador of the community of communes of the Picardie Verte Régis Cools, who explained the sorting instructions to them.

The town hall also helped the students with the evacuation of bulky items, while the deputy mayor Hélène Pichard came to encourage and congratulate them.

Collection in figures

In total, the high school students collected 86.6kg of waste (63.9kg of bulky items, 4.7kg of household waste, 13kg of glass, 2.6kg of aluminum, 0.7kg of clean paper, 1.3kg of plastic , 4kg of hazardous waste) and two liters of cigarette butts.

A collection almost identical to that of last year. We must therefore continue our efforts to continue to reduce our waste.
