Depression Kirk: in Brittany, the next few days promise to be much less rainy than expected

Good news for the Bretons: the forecasts over the last few days “were good, but not targeted in the right place”, informs Stéven Tual. The meteorologist announces, in fact, a “significant shift in the rainy axis” associated with the Kirk depression “towards the south”.

Finally dry weather in northern

Consequently, “it is possible that there will be no rain at all in Finistère and Côtes-d’Armor tomorrow,” explains Stéven Tual. “This will fall in reasonable quantities in Ille-et-Vilaine and in Morbihan”, with an announced accumulation of 15 to 30 mm.

The department of Finistère is nevertheless placed on yellow alert from this Tuesday, October 8, 2024 for violent winds, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., and thunderstorms, from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Temperatures are also expected to drop from Thursday, with forecasts of 10-11°C until Sunday (13°C on the coast), and the sun will return this weekend.

Heavy precipitation in -Atlantique

Conversely, “there is reason to be quite worried” further south, warns Stéven Tual. Loire-Atlantique will be “cut in two”. North of the Loire, “continuous precipitation, sometimes heavy”, is expected from this afternoon. More than 50 mm of rain is forecast for Wednesday.

In the far south of the department, 70 to 80 mm are forecast, or “the equivalent of three weeks of rain in 48 hours”. The absorption capacity of the soil could quickly reach saturation, with the consequences of “small local floods”.

In the departments of Vendée and Deux-Sèvres, up to 100 mm of precipitation is expected, “concentrated in 12 to 24 hours”.
