It was good for us to postpone this beautiful loop ski touring outing from yesterday to today, starting from the plain located between Cervières and Les Fonts. Thanks to the clear night the day before, the refreezing was excellent. And as there are no crowds here, the slopes are not rutted by old tracks.
1st “bonus” descent (200 m from D-) from almost the summit towards the valley which plunges towards Laus and the Izoard road. It’s a pure marvel on a (very) short pile carpet.
The “real” descent will be just as good. Always an ideal carpet on the upper 700 m of altitude difference (from 2900 to 2200 m), much heavier on the lower 300 m (2200 to 1900). But it’s all about skiing down to the bottom, the end in a corridor filled with avalanche loops, but it’s ultimately rather fun.
There are just 20 minutes of flat portage on the road at the end of the outing (and barely 5 minutes in the morning)… and the Cerveyrette to cross with obligatory pump soaking (see video)… but as it is is at the end of release, it’s not a problem.
Was this my last outing of the season? I’m hesitating a little between wanting to end on such a perfect note… and perhaps doing one more to take advantage of the beautiful snow at altitude…
