Paris 15th century: The historical dance championship in the heart of Vaugirard

Since 2013, the town hall of the 15th arrondissement has organized the major historical dance championship every year. Whether you are a dancer or a simple spectator, you will have the opportunity to admire for two consecutive days dancers performing in period outfits, who will perform on the Parisian floor.

A century-old heritage

Dance is a European tradition, and France is no exception to this heritage! For centuries, the French have practiced dancing, whether at traditional balls where the nobility and the population come together to dance in pairs to different styles of music. Whether costumed or not, dance is a subtle blend between visual spectacle and musical expression. Even though dance styles have evolved a lot since those times, the tradition continues through festivals and events, whether sporting or cultural.

In partnership with the French Dance Federation, the town hall of the 15th arrondissement has been organizing a competition for professional dancers since 2013. This event, completely free, takes place throughout a weekend animated by dance, but above all by a real journey back in time, recalling the time when balls were the essential place in society.

A ball open to all

In addition to this sporting competition, the Paris town hall is organizing a wild ball from 7:20 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., where all spectators are invited to join the floor to dance, according to the rules of the art! To participate in this ball, nothing could be simpler: you just need to register for free and present yourself with a partner. The town hall specifies that it is not a costume or masked ball, but correct formal attire is required to take part in the traditional dance weekend.
