Formed off the coast of Senegal, theouragan Kirk should reach the Atlantic coast of France, including the Girondeby this Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
“With fairly rare tropical characteristics, Hurricane Kirk could cause a major storm in France,” specifies Guillaume Séchet, founder of the Météo-Villes site.
In Gironde, in the morning you should expect gusts of around 70 km/h on the coast, from the Arcachon basin to the tip of Médoc, and around 40-50 km/h inland, particularly at Bordeaux.
Violent thunderstorms and heavy rainfall
In the afternoon and evening, the wind gusts will intensify with peaks at 85 km/h on the coast and 60 km/h inland.
The Keraunos site discusses the probability of severe thunderstorms across the whole of Gironde, during this storm, and Météo France also announces heavy rain accumulations.
The wind should still blow relatively strongly on Thursday October 10, even if its intensity should gradually decrease with gusts forecast between 40 and 50 km/h in the afternoon, across the whole of Gironde. Also, repeated showers are expected.
