Heading to the Eurovision final for Nemo. The artist from Bienne qualified in the second semi-final on Thursday evening in Malmö, Sweden. It placed eighth out of the ten qualified countries. Controversial Israel also qualified.

The qualification of the 24-year-old artist is not a surprise for followers of the competition. For weeks, his title ‘The Code’ has been at the top of the names mentioned by punters, who see it as a potential winner. It was only overtaken in recent days by the Croatian song, ‘Rim Tim Tagi Dim’ by Baby Lasagna.

With ‘The Code’, the non-binary artist talks about feeling neither male nor female and the journey to finding your identity. Musically, the song written in English is also very varied with elements of rap, drum and bass and opera.

The title was written as a team a year ago in the space of a day, with Norwegian producer Lasse Midtsian Nymann, Swedish composer Linda Dale and Swiss producer Benjamin Alasu. Nemo, his real first name, got into music at the age of 15 and today lives between Bienne and Berlin.

Belgium not qualified

Israel, whose participation in the Eurovision song contest has been criticized, also qualified for the final on Saturday, rising to fifth place in the semi-final. ‘Hurricane’, the Israeli title was performed without a hitch or interruption by Eden Golan in front of the 9,000 people at the Malmö Arena, exhilarated by the competition.

Earlier in the day, nearly 12,000 people demonstrated in the host city against Israel’s participation in the competition, expressing outrage at the war in Gaza.

Latvia, Austria, the Netherlands, Norway, Greece, Estonia, Georgia and Armenia also qualified. Belgium, not having obtained enough votes, was deprived of participation in the final.
