“The collective announces its attacks in advance on its website,” said CCB spokesperson Katrien Eggers. “We have contacted the victims to take anti-DDoS measures.”

The province of Liège confirmed having been among the targets. Just like those of Limburg, East Flanders, Flemish Brabant and Walloon Brabant. The city of Antwerp and the Chamber also reported being affected.

Most of the affected sites were restored by early afternoon. Those from the province of Hainaut and the Walloon Region are unavailable. According to the CCB, disruptions are still expected in the coming hours “depending on the intensity of the attack and the protective measures taken.”

Elections in danger?

On the Telegram account of the collective “NoName057”, we can see that the attack suffered by several Belgian sites is due to Belgium’s donation to Ukraine of three Caesar artillery units. “The Belgian government will soon consider a proposal to purchase and transfer to Ukraine three Caesar artillery units (…) We decided to visit Russophobic Belgium in order to show it how the support initiatives end to the criminal regime of kyiv”, writes the collective on its social network.

Moreover, “NoName057” threatens to attack Belgium during its elections. “On Sunday October 13, Belgium will hold important elections: citizens will choose their municipal councilors.” Enough to take a potential attack seriously this Sunday.
