Moselle-East. Sarralbe, a pink city against cancer

Sharing, solidarity and smiles are the words that best sum up the 2nd edition of Sarralbe en rose. More than 1,200 people attended this event organized on Sunday by a collective including the City of Sarralbe, the MJC, the firefighters and Une rose un Hope, for a 7 km run or walk around the city and in favor of of Pink October.

After the success of this event in 2023, which allowed the organizers to donate the sum of €7,540 to the League Against Cancer, many residents of the region mobilized for the good cause. Dressed in pink, the participants gathered at 9 a.m. on the square in front of Sarralbe town hall. After a collective warm-up with music, two starts were given from 10 a.m., one for the runners and the second for the walkers.

Even the residents of the nursing home

The crowd in pink crossed the city center to take the footbridge then the towpath. Heading towards the Ineos pond, Patricia and Christine are part of the leading pack of walkers. Accustomed to walking several kilometers each week, they are delighted to participate in the event. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s my first participation but I find the atmosphere really great,” confides Patricia. Further on, towards the arboretum, a refreshment mark marks the halfway point. Volunteers serve fruit and drinks to participants, some of whom came with family. “We came with the children to walk for a good cause,” explains Aurélie. As the finish approached, one group received a particular ovation. These are around ten residents of the Saint-Joseph nursing home in Sarralbe who, pushed by their guides, completed the 3 km route reserved for people with reduced mobility. With them, the party was complete and involved all ages.

If pink was the dress code, it was above all sharing that united participants and volunteers during this beautiful race.
