We can never repeat it enough: If you have consumed alcohol or drugs, avoid driving. It’s first and foremost a question of security. But if you also have the misfortune of being checked on the roads of our Belgian neighbors, it will also be a question of (a lot) of money and timing.

A fine to be paid immediately

In fact, from 1is January 2025, Belgium will toughen its tone against reckless foreign motorists since they may be fined a minimum of 1,260 euros to be paid immediately, as reported by our colleagues from Sudinfo.

Car there are still too many foreign drivers who never pay their fines. If you are unable to pay the fine when the fine is issued, your vehicle will be immobilized for 96 hours. And if payment has not been made at the end of this period, the seizure of the vehicle may be ordered. The vehicle owner will then also have to pay towing and impound costs. You have been warned!
