Since the start of the school year, the college students of Seine-et- have been eating locally in the canteen. To promote short circuits, the department has set up the Approvhalles platform this year. Located in Provins, this agri-food platform already supplies 119 colleges in the department with products from local agriculture.

Fruits, vegetables and dairy products (excluding creamery) come from 70 farms in the region. On the meat side, Approvhalles sources its poultry within a 120 km radius around Provins, and aims to use 50% labeled products and 20% organic products.

Support from the Ile-de- region

Ultimately, the platform must supply the greater east of , including high schools in Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-de-Marne, for a total of 13 million meals per year. This local procurement policy is in line with the food law (Egalim), which imposes quotas for local and organic products in school canteens. This new supply platform benefited from the support of the Ile-de-France region for a total investment of four million euros.

It is part of a broader policy to overhaul school catering in Seine-et-Marne, called “Seine-et-Marne freshness”. Throughout the year, the departmental council will organize a food education campaign, which will allow students to visit the farms from which the products they consume in the canteen come from.
