Cotentin. Where does this strange (small) pollution come from on this river?

A sort of orange-yellow foam was spotted on Tuesday May 7, 2024on the surface of the watercourse Le Merderet.

This substance is blocked, on only a few square meters, under the Saint-Georges bridge, rue Barbey d’Aurevillyin Valognes (Manche), near the Maison du Grand Quartier (under renovation and which housed the cider museum since 1972) and theBeaumont Hotel. No smell did not emerge.

Two municipal police officers on scene

In the early afternoon, two municipal police officers went to the scene, followed by a agent of the Agglo Cotentin, the management of aquatic environments being one of the SKILLS of the urban community.

They had detected a few other elements of the same type a little further upstream, a few hectometres, “behind the museum of brandy and old trades”, between the rue Pelouze and the rue de l’Officialité. We noticed them too.

We could also see them at the upstream end of the scaffolding surrounding the Maison du Grand Quartier. Pollution therefore does not come from this renovation siteespecially since the site was not in activity.

Consequence of the heavy rains the day before?

The police hypothesized a consequence of the heavy rain of the day before, Monday May 6, which could have caused any washing system Or sanitation.

Contacted in the afternoon, the Cotentin Agglomeration services did not yet know what the origin could be.
