Launched on Monday, May 6, the Canada Post Terre de nos aïeux series offers nine images of so-called must-see Canadian destinations.

And among these destinations, we find the majestic Restigouche River.

Launched in 2018, this series showcases Canada’s natural beauty and magnificent cultural landscapes. For this fourth broadcast, photos from seven provinces and two territories are highlighted, including one from northern New Brunswick.

More precisely, we are talking here about the Restigouche River, a world-renowned salmon river and a segment of which is part of the Canadian Heritage network.

Ironically, to capture this landscape of the Restigouche River, you have to go to the Quebec side, more precisely to the “Horizon de rêve” lookout in Saint-Alexis in the Matapédia plateaus. This is one of the most popular viewpoints on the river.

The photo in question was taken by a citizen of Saint-Jacques, Guylaine Bégin. An amateur photographer, she regularly publishes her photos on her blog on the Flickr platform. A graphic designer by profession, she is now recently retired. Photography remains one of his favorite hobbies.

She says that she was taken this photo a few years ago, in 2019, while she was visiting the Campbellton region.

“Canada Post approached me a little before the pandemic because they had seen my photo on my blog. They approached me to see if I could transfer the rights to them because we wanted to use it for a stamp project,” says Ms. Bégin.

Since then, she has been impatiently waiting for the moment when her photo would become a stamp. Now that it’s done, she admits to feeling great pride.

“It feels great to see that one of my photos is on a stamp today. It’s really special. It’s not every day that you see his name associated with a national collection. And personally, I don’t know anyone who was crazy,” she says.

The Restigouche River stamp is available inside a souvenir sheet (including all nine stamps from the fourth part of the Terre de nos aïeux collection), in booklets and rolls for oversized mailings. Limited printings (2500) of postage prepaid postcards were also made from this photo.
