fter a first signature with the Pas à Pas association (Precarious workers in solidarity with a social autonomy project), intended to offer one hour per week of swimming to its members, the Greater Villeneuvois urban community is opening the Malbentre aquatic center to audiences who, spontaneously, did not go through the doors. On Wednesday April 24, the deputy delegate for sports, André Forget, signed two agreements: one with the Lot Valley Health Center, the other with committee 47 of the League against Cancer.

Signatures which formalize two new specific activities, born two weeks earlier in the Villeneuvois basins. The first, prenatal swimming, was launched by one of the midwives employed at the Pôle de santé, Sylvie Debonne, and is aimed at pregnant women up to the ninth month: “This existed before Covid, but had not not resumed since. I took the initiative to relaunch it, particularly for patients who require special preparation for childbirth. These are often women who have already had a first child and who wish to experience motherhood a little differently. »

“From good to mental”

Prenatal swimming sessions last on average 45 minutes and take place in the small pool and the “bubble-free” Jacuzzi… It is not necessary to know how to swim. The idea, above all, is to offer them, certainly a little sport, but above all a time to relax for themselves, explains Sandrine Debonne. During these 45 minutes accompanied by one of Malbentre’s lifeguards, future mothers work on their breathing.

“We see many benefits from practicing sports in water: the reduction in back or ligament pain, which is quite common during pregnancy. » A maximum of five sessions are covered financially as part of preparation for birth. Only the entrance fee to the swimming pool, 3 euros, remains to be paid.

Providing well-being is also the primary objective of the gentle aquagym classes, set up in Malbentre by the League against cancer: “These are the first in Lot-et-Garonne,” specifies Doctor Jean Calabet, president of the committee 47 of the League. They are open to patients suffering from all types of cancer or in remission for less than five years. »

Around ten 45-minute sessions, with adapted content, are financed. Here too, you just have to pay the entrance fee to the swimming pool, at 3 euros: “It’s a gentle way to continue doing physical activity despite the illness and the treatments,” adds Doctor Jean Calabet. We also know that an activity in the aquatic element provides a lot of mental good. »
