The Pays de la Loire will also have the right to the passage of the Olympic flame which arrives this Wednesday, May 8 in Marseille. The highlight was several celebrations in Angers, Laval, Les Sables d’Olonne and then La Baule.

She left Olympia (Greece) on April 27. The Olympic flame is currently on the Belem ship, accompanied in particular by Éléonor Budak from Nantes. His arrival is planned in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), this Wednesday, May 8.

The symbol of the Games will pass through four of the five departments of Pays de la Loire, between May 28 and June 5. Every day, the symbol of the Olympic Games will cross a department. For us, it is Maine-et-Loire which will have the privilege of seeing the flame pass first.

It will pass through several towns and emblematic places, before a celebration at the end of the day. If you too plan to come and take a closer look at this sacred torch, we’ll give you the timetable and some practical information.

First stop in Maine-et-Loire

First date of arrival of the flame in the region, May 28. In Maine-et-Loire, the symbol of Olympism will pass through Baugé-en-Anjou (8:30 a.m.), Montsoreau (9:15 a.m.), Le Lion-d’Angers (10:45 a.m.), Chaudefonds-sur-Layon (12:30 p.m.), La Romagne (3 p.m.), Saint-Florent-le-Vieil (4 p.m.) and will finish its journey in Angers (6 p.m.).

A 6 kilometer relay will then begin through this city which is hosting the celebration. 30 porters will take turns from the Josette-et-Roger Mikulak stadium (Lac de Maine) to Place de la Rochefoucauld. Arrival will be at 7:30 p.m.

Mayenne for the second day

Then head north towards Mayenne. The flame will make six stages in the department. Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne (9:15 a.m.), Cossé-le-Vivien (at the Robert Tatin museum at 10:45 a.m.), Sainte-Suzanne-et-Chammes (12:00 p.m.), Chailland (1:15 p.m.), Mayenne (3:30 p.m.), Mont-des-Avaloirs (5 p.m.) are the lucky ones. The flame will arrive in Laval at the end of the day, from 5:45 p.m. and until 7:30 p.m.

Meet at the Mayenne space, where numerous activities will be offered from 4:30 p.m. The department plans a tasting of local products, or even introductions to cycling and climbing. Before the arrival of the torch and the lighting of the cauldron, scheduled for 7:45 p.m.

Then it’s time for a concert by the group Archimède: be careful to reserve your place, as the department has restricted capacity for security reasons.

The flame sees the sea for the penultimate day

Head south, towards the coast, for the second part of this flame’s journey in the Pays de la Loire. She will cross the Vendée on June 4. Passage du Gois (8:00 a.m.), Fontenay-le-Comte (8:30 a.m.), Montaigu-Vendée (11:15 a.m.), Puy-du-Fou park (12:30 p.m.), La Roche-sur-Yon (2:45 p.m.-4:10 p.m.), and the Pointe d’Arcay (5:15 p.m.) are affected. Les Sables-d’Olonne will be the host city of the celebration : arrival of the torch from 5:58 p.m. until 7:20 p.m.

During its visit to Puy du Fou, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m., the flame will wander through the settings of the famous amusement park: the French gardens of the Grand Carrousel, the settings of the Oscar-winning show The Mime and the Starthe villages of Bourg Bérard, ChasseLoup and Font Rognou, the settings of the shows The Vikings, The Knights of the Round Table and the track of the Gallo-Roman Stadium (in which the flame will make several laps alongside the Roman parade of the show).

Throughout this exceptional 2 km route, a guard of honor will greet the passing of the Olympic flame. Nearly 350 actors and horses will accompany the flame to Puy du Fou. specifies the direction of the park.

The passage of the flame will be a first test for Vendée, which will also see another sacred fire pass next August. One of the twelve flames of the Paralympic Games (Editor’s note: the Olympic events for people with disabilities) will also pass through the department, as we have already indicated here. This relay is scheduled for August 25 to 28, with no details yet on the exact dates.

The last farewells by the Loire-Atlantique

In Loire-Atlantique, residents will see the Olympic light pass on June 5. The flame will trace its route through six municipalities. It will depart from Saint-Sébastien-sur-Loire (9:45 a.m.), direction Ingrandes-le-Fresne-sur-Loire (11:00 a.m.), then Vertou (11:45 a.m.), Vallons-de-l’Erdre (1:15 p.m.), Basse-Goulaine (2:45 p.m.) and Ligné (4:15 p.m.). Before the end of the day celebration planned in La Baule (from 6:15 p.m. and until 7:20 p.m.).

Note that one of the torchbearers in this department will be Claudine Contoz. This resident of La Baule (Loire-Atlantique) is a former European tennis champion. Now 81 years old, she will be one of the lucky 11,000 who will carry the flame 200 meters. The relay will in fact pass through the city’s tennis club.
