A serial floor licker sows panic among Parisian traders

In Paris, the police receive numerous calls about a man licking the floor in businesses in the 5th, 7th, 13th and 14th arrondissements of the city. A florist tells Le Parisien that she received his visit last April.

The normal-looking man first said he needed help, then began licking the ground. “We didn’t know who this man was, where he came from and if he was violent,” she says. In panic, the florist dials 18, but the man leaves the store immediately. The firefighters then sent her back to the emergency police.

The man, between 50 and 60 years old, is also well known to the agents. “Ah, but it’s the licker! He is very disturbed, but he is not dangerous,” they explain to him. According to the agents, he comes from the Saint-Anne psychiatric hospital center and sometimes finds himself out of treatment.

According to the police emergency call platform (PFAU), these alerts are becoming more and more frequent. The closure of many beds in psychiatric hospitals would be the cause, indicates Christophe Prudhomme, a spokesperson for emergency doctors in France.
