Launched in Toulouse and Haute-Garonne on Tuesday April 2, 2024, the Place Net XXL operation benefited from significant human resources to carry out searches and arrests as part of ongoing preliminary investigations, execute search warrants, or further carry out checks by the Anti-Fraud Committee (CODAF).

It took place in Haute-Garonne since April 2, 2024 and for five weeks, under the authority of the prefect and the public prosecutor. But what about definitive assessment?

More than 400 people arrested

While after a week of operation, the police had already arrested 118 people in Toulouse, the Haute-Garonne prefecture drew up a higher toll. More than 400 people were arrested during this major operation. Here are the numbers to know:

  • 212 people placed in police custody (including 131 for drug offenses, 21 for attacks on persons and 41 for attacks on property).
  • 97 people referred to the Toulouse judicial court, including 52 placed under arrest warrant.

And with them, 270 fixed tort fines (AFD) for possession of narcotics were issued. To combat trafficking of all kinds, seizures of weapons, narcotics and cigarette cartons, among others, were also made.

Massive checks

In its assessment, the Haute-Garonne prefecture wants to support the “strong police presence” to fight against delinquency and insecurity during this operation. Indeed, numerous checks were carried out by the police:

“Nearly 21,550 people and 15,250 vehicles checked, checks on public transport, particularly in the metro, sometimes in connection with Tisséo; road safety operations making it possible in particular to combat the phenomenon of urban rodeos: 463 fines were issued in this context,” explains the prefecture.

Controlled businesses

Certain businesses were also in the sights of the authorities. Two control operations were carried out within establishments in the Mirail district, Abbal Square and Milan Square“allowing failures, fraud or offenses to be noted”.

The “clandestine” market in Place Abbal was also controlled. “Tons of objects or goods could thus be recovered and then destroyed,” adds the prefecture.

In total, “more than 52 businesses controlled and 18 administrative closures”. At the same time, the Toulouse town hall was able to evacuate several tonnes of objects and bulky items, including seizures of goods sold illegally (street sales) on Place Abbal and bulky items or debris recovered on the site.

Evacuation of illegal camps

The operation continued as far as the illegal camps. On April 4, 2024, the police evacuated two illegal camps located on Chemin de Gabardie in Toulouse.

State services were present to carry out an assessment of the administrative and social situation of each occupant. In total, eight people were taken taken into care and five families refused any support.
