The very rainy autumn and winter risked causing land collapse due to rain runoff. And that’s what’s happening.
After Asnières, on the departmental road 22 (Thiberville/Cormeilles) and Heudreville-en-Lieuvin, on the RD 47 (Heudreville/Fresne-Cauverville), both blocked for suspicion of marl, it is the turn of the RD 31 (Boisney/Berthouville) to be closed for approximately 200 meters.
Closure until March 2025
It is precisely near the place called “Muletière”, a few dozen meters from the cross country de Berthouville, at low point hill 147, that a subsidence of the road was noted on the right bank of the road.
This part of the road, which cuts a dry valley and who receives all runoff of the sector, has undoubtedly been washed away by the rains which have been falling since mid-October, which caused a subsidence of the land on the banks.
The Brionne road agency therefore issued a traffic order in these terms: “In order to carry out geotechnical study work, roadway and shoulder restructuring work to come in 2024-2025 […] Considering that in order to guarantee the safety of users and residents near the construction site, the road will be blocked for 165 meters from 03/26/2024 to 03/25/2025. »
Three roads closed within a 10 km radius
With this new diversion, north of the RD 613, three departmental roads are now blocked within a 10 kilometer radius, which complicates traffic.
In the case of Berthouville, two diversions, one to the north and one to the south, have been put in place. All these deviations on sometimes narrower roads make maintenance of the latter difficult and accentuate the damage on the edges of roads already badly damaged by rain.
Ten subsidences in the sector of the territorial unit of Brionne
We can legitimately ask ourselves the question of such a response time, until March 2025. Even if it is necessary to set up contracts, consult companies and carry out the work, it is difficult for users to understand this situation.
To find out more, we contacted Cyril Simon, head of the Brionne road agency. If in the Thiberville sector there are currently three subsidences recorded, across the entire territory of the territorial unit of Brionne, nearly 10 subsidences are now recorded.
Concerning the collapse on the RD 22 (Thiberville/ Cormeilles), the surveys have been carried out and the analysis of the results is underway in order to define the best technical solution to put in place. Please note that to prevent any traffic to the right of the detour, a merlon has been installed to avoid crossings.
On the RD 47in Heudreville-en-Lieuvin, the situation has not changed, the surveys were not carried out and the collapse continues to widen. Here, no merlon, the hole being right in the middle of the road, and no one dares to cross the signage.
Several technical solutions studied
Concerning the subsidence of Berthouville, it seems that several technical solutions are possible. They range from simple reinforcement of banks to more complete works of consolidation of roads and management of runoff water. When the right technical solution is chosen, consultations will be made in order to carry out the work.
Nearly 15 agents from the road agency are trying to maintain these roads in good condition by bank replenishment campaigns while waiting for the weather to allow the work program to be carried out.
At the same time, agents are also busy with the new rhythm of the mowing season with grass this year growing thickly.
