Armando Melim, Orange director of relations with local authorities in Gard and Didier Dart, elected in charge of communications, spoke about the 5G network in La Grand’Combe, already in service.

Since 2020, Orange has been responsible for deploying 5G on French territory. Fifty municipalities in Gard benefit from this new broadband equipment, including La Grand’Combe very recently. In addition to the two existing 4G antennas, two others in 4G and 5G have been added, to provide better comfort and more speed for residents and tourists, as the network is in increasing demand each year.

In the presence of Armando Melim, Orange director of relations with local authorities in Gard and Didier Dart, municipal councilor responsible for communications, all the details were revealed this Monday. “We thank Orange for taking care of our small rural communities”, says Didier Dart. For the elected official, this technological feat could enable the development of services such as teleworking, and will have an impact for tourism players and traders. “We will still be vigilant for those who are far from digital”he specifies.

Saving time and energy

For Armando Melim, this installation sounds like a good idea. “To download a film on 4G, it takes on average 17 minutes, compared to 4 minutes on 5G”, he explains. 5G would also have the advantage of saving energy, “we would divide it by two and, everywhere in France at the end of 2025, we will have divided our consumption by ten with 5G”, he assures. With the confirmation that Orange will continue to gradually establish its branches in the Gard department.
