The Senegalese government made public yesterday, Monday, the list of vessels authorized to fish in waters under national jurisdiction. This initiative, supervised by the Minister of Fisheries, Maritime and Port Infrastructure, Dr Fatou Diouf, is part of the authorities’ commitment to ensuring transparency in the management of the country’s natural resources, considered a national heritage. .

According to the official document released by the Ministry of Fisheries, the list reveals the authorization of 132 national vessels and 19 foreign vessels to practice fishing in Senegalese waters. However, it should be noted that this list does not take into account files currently being renewed.

Furthermore, the data provided indicates that as of December 31, 2023, a total of 17,449 canoes, national and foreign, were identified, with the allocation of 7,493 permits, of which 18 were issued to foreigners, thus representing 43 % of total permits. In addition, for the period from January 1 to April 30, the national canoe workforce is estimated at 17,449 canoes, with the issuance of 4,754 permits, which is equivalent to a rate of 27.25%.
