The favorite monument of the French in 2024: which one will represent the Île-de-France region?

What will be the favorite monument of the French this year? Answer in a few months on the occasion of the 41st edition of European Heritage Days. In the meantime, Ile-de-France residents are invited to vote for the monument which will represent the Île-de-France region. So, what are these monuments in the running? We discover them!

New and 4th edition for “ The favorite monument of the French » ! Always presented by Stéphane Bernthe show can be discovered on France 3 at the start of the school year on the occasion of the 41st edition of European Heritage Days. Once again, ” The favorite monument of the French » offers us a fabulous journey on the roads of France to discover the richness of our cultural, architectural and historical heritage.

In 2023, the fortified castle of Sedan, located in the Grand Est region, was designated “ favorite monument of the French “. So, who will succeed him this year? For the moment, it is still too early to say, but 14 selected monuments will be in the running this year. Before knowing the winners and the results, Internet users are invited to vote to designate the monument which will represent their region from two proposals.

These are the Domaine de Trévarez in Saint-Goazec in Finistère, the Château de Maintenon in Eure-et-Loir, the Maison Bonaparte in Ajaccio, the Belfry of Douai in the North, the Château d’Eu – Louis-Philippe Museum in Seine-Maritime or even Fort Louvois in Charente-Maritime.

What about the Ile-de-France region? Last year, Internet users designated the Bibliothèque nationale de France Site Richelieu in Paris as representative of the Île-de-France region. This year, Internet users will have to choose between Royaumont Abbey in Val-d’Oise and Fontainebleau castle in Seine-et-Marne.

Located in Asnières-sur-Oise, Royaumont Abbey was founded in 1228 by Louis IX and his mother Blanche of Castile. After being sold during the French Revolution, then transformed into a textile factory, the Abbey much later welcomed artists and intellectuals. Its buildings have been classified as a historic monument since 1927 and the Abbey has three remarkable gardens and a 7-hectare park.

The building is known for having hosted all the French sovereigns from the 12th to the 19th century.
