Ziguinchor, Oct 4 (APS) – The governor of Ziguinchor (south), Mor Talla Tine, chaired, Friday, a regional development committee (CRD) dedicated to the episcopal ordination of Monsignor Jean Baptiste Valter Manga, the new bishop of diocese of Ziguinchor, scheduled for November 23, 2024, noted the APS.
“We organized this CRD to allow the organizing committee to share their expectations with the heads of regional services,” explained the head of the regional executive.
He spoke at the end of the meeting, in the presence of department heads and officials of the diocese of Ziguinchor.
Mor Talla Tine believes that “this meeting will also allow these department heads to outline the arrangements they intend to implement to support the organizing committee so that the event is crowned with success”.
At the end of this CRD, he said he was reassured to know that the necessary arrangements by the State will be taken so that this event of international dimension can be a success.
According to the governor, “thousands of guests are expected at this major event of international dimension, scheduled for November 23.”
“We are expecting guests who will come from other African countries and also from around the world. In terms of attendance, around 6,000 people are expected,” noted Mor Talla Tine.
“To welcome these faithful in the best conditions, he said, the administration will take all the necessary measures in terms of security coverage, mobilization of the necessary logistics, health coverage,” he reassured.
Abbot Fulgence Coly, diocesan administrator of Ziguinchor, considers this ordination as “a great event” for the Christian community.
“For us Christians, it is a great event, it means that we have a bishop, we have a pastor, we have a leader who will receive all the grace for our diocese of Ziguinchor,” he rejoiced, before launching a call for mobilization to, he said, welcome the guests.
Vicar of the Good Shepherd parish of Enampore, Jean Baptiste Valter Manga was appointed bishop of the diocese of Ziguinchor by Pope Francis on June 20.
Aged 52, Mgr Manga studied theology at the major seminary of Sébikotane (1995-2000), after a course in philosophy at the philosophical seminary of Brin (1993-1995), indicates the diocese of Ziguinchor.
He also indicates that the religious holds a “license in biblical theology at the Collège des Bernardins (Paris), in 2009”, and a “doctorate in ethnology and anthropology at the School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences, EHESS (Paris), in 2015”.
Ordained priest on December 20, 2000, he was a professor of mathematics and natural sciences at the minor seminary of Ziguinchor, where he was head of the vocations commission (2000-2006).
