In 80 years of existence, The Marne covered with many miscellaneous facts. Serious accidents, disappearances, murder, attacks… A look back at the cases which have most marked the north of Seine-et-Marne over the last eight decades.

1946: The double crime of Nanteuil

Saturday February 2, 1946 in the evening, Nanteuil-lès-Meaux was the scene of a sordid news item, which was reminiscent of that which had been committed some time earlier in Meaux. That evening, a rainy evening, two sixty-year-olds are killed on their farm. They were found the next morning by a neighbor, who came to collect milk.

The scene leaves a lasting mark on the territory. Quickly, two men are arrested, and admit to having mbeat the couple with iron bars. They wanted to rob the unfortunate people.

1971-1999: The Lydia Gouardo affair

In Coulommes, Lydia Gouardo was raped and tortured by his father (legal but not biological) from the age of 8 to the age of 36. Six children were born to this incestuous relationship. Despite Lydia Gouardo’s numerous attempts to escape her ordeal, neither the authorities, nor her family, nor the social services heard her distress.

His father died of a heart attack at 62, he was never tried. Four years later, in 2003, the victim filed a lawsuit against her mother-in-law, who was sentenced to 4 months suspended prison sentence for failure to prevent a crime.

Because of her multiple burns, Lydia Gouardo is today 80% disabled.

1994: Murder of Karine Leroy

Karine Leroy19, disappeared on June 9, 1994 on the way to high school in Meaux. A month later, his body was discovered on the edge of an undergrowth in Montceaux-lès-Meaux. If officially his murderer was never identified, justice is closely interested in the Grêlé from 2021.

The file was transferred to cold case pole in 2023. Le Grêlé, who has since died, is the main suspect, but other avenues are being explored.

Deadly plane crashes

In 1953, two army planes collide in the air near . The accident left two dead.

On March 7, 1974, a Turkish Airlines plane exploded and crashed near Saint-Pathus, in the Ermenonville forest. In total, 351 people die. Dead bodies were found up to 11 kilometers from the crash site.

On July 25, 2000, the Concorde crashed into a hotel in , less than two minutes after taking off from Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle airport. A metal strip on the track resulted in the bursting of a tire, a fire and the loss of two of the reactors. 113 people on board died, and 4 residents of the hotel.

2003: The Estelle Mouzin affair

On January 9, 2003, little Estelle Mouzin, 9 years old, disappeared on her way home from school in Guermantes. We have to wait until 2020 for the serial killer Michel Fourniret be re-examined by Justice. He would eventually confess but was never convicted, due to his death in 2021.

His ex-wife, Monique Olivier, was tried in December 2023 for complicity in kidnapping and sequestration followed by death and was sentenced to life imprisonment. The body was never found.

2011: Bastien killed in a washing machine

On November 25, 2011, firefighters discovered the lifeless body of Bastien3 years old, in Germigny-l’Évêque. During their trial in 2015, the parents admitted to having put their child in the washing machine to punish him. The mother was sentenced to 15 years in prison for complicity in murder. The father, the perpetrator, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for aggravated murder.

Unsolved crimes

1987 : Virginie Delmas, 10 years old, disappeared on May 5, 1987 in Neuilly-sur-Marne. She was found 5 months later completely naked in an orchard in Mareuil-lès-Meaux. To date, the perpetrator of this crime has not been identified.

1987 : Perrine Vigneron7 years old, was kidnapped in Bouleurs on June 3, 1987. Her body was found on June 27, 1987 in a rapeseed field in .

2013 : Maud Maréchal21, was burned alive on the night of May 14, 2013 in Lagny-sur-Marne, in the middle of the street, a few meters from her home. This unresolved case has been transferred to the cold cases division de , and inspired a film: La Nuit du 12.

The Kouachi brothers in Dammartin

After the Charlie Hebdo killingson January 7, 2015 in , the Kouachi brothers fled and took refuge, two days later, in the printing house Discovery Trend Creationin Dammartin-en-Goële. The manager, Michel Catalano, is taken hostage. An employee, hidden under a sink, warns the authorities. The assault is given at 5 p.m. The two terrorists are slaughtered.
