Ogo, Oct 4 (APS) – The Power to Youth project organized a citizen hearing in Ogo on Friday, with the aim of allowing young people from this commune in the Matam region (north) to “better understand the functioning of communities territorial”’.

“The objective of this citizen hearing is to allow young people in this municipality to better understand the functioning of local authorities, and also to immerse themselves in the relationships that should exist between young people and local elected officials among others,” said Abdoulaye Diaw, point focal point of this project carried out in the departments of Matam and Kanel since 2021.

He spoke during the opening ceremony of this citizens’ hearing held in the premises of the town hall of Ogo, in the presence of deputy mayors and the municipal secretary.

According to Abdoulaye Diaw, this initiative also aims to promote “meaningful participation” of young people in decision-making bodies.

The holding of this hearing in this neighboring commune of Ourossogui is explained by “a desire to decentralize project activities”, according to its focal point.

“Here in Ogo, we are going to see with young people how the municipal budget works, how it is voted on, its prerogatives and the role that the municipality must play to meet the needs of adolescents and young people, especially in reproductive health” , he said.

He returned to the ambitions of the Power to Youth project, which consists of ensuring that young people are involved in decision-making bodies in 2025, through an action plan.
