Visitors to gallery 2 of the Pompidou-Metz center which is hosting the exhibition “Lacan, When the Artist Meets Psychoanalysis” were evacuated early in the afternoon this Monday, May 6, 2024 by the security services. The latter mentioned a “problem” without further details.

At reception, the staff of the contemporary art center indicated that the painting “The Origin of the World” loaned by the Musée d’Orsay Paris for the exhibition had been damaged. These people were interviewed by the police within the museum, as well as two security agents and two mediation people present at the time of the incident.

The work of Gustave Courbet which represents a female nude is exhibited in a glass frame, which a priori should make it possible to preserve the painting.

Contacted, the communications department of the Pompidou center confirmed the elements. The police are currently on site to carry out the usual findings.
