« These undemocratic practices, contrary to the most basic rights and freedoms, must be relegated to the museum of the spinning wheel and the bronze ax “, said Guy Marius Sagna, referring to the bullying he suffered alongside others. actors of Togolese civil society.

He also affirmed that the Togolese government had planned a letter to the ECOWAS Parliament, to report that the meeting planned with Togolese citizens on September 29 had not been authorized, because it had not been officially declared. In response, the President of the ECOWAS Parliament summoned her to a “listening session” to discuss this situation.

« On the poster, it was written + Come many +, which was interpreted as a call for a public meeting “, he explained. He added that he had responded to his parliamentary colleague: “ I will not accept that my rights are trampled on, even for a private meeting between four walls ».

Guy Marius Sagna then denounced the pressure exerted to prevent the holding of the meeting initially planned in a parish, which ultimately had to be moved, and seeing the willingness of the Togolese government to prevent any interaction between him and Togolese citizens, he made it clear that this meeting was in no way political in nature. “ Some journalists claimed that my meeting was with the Togolese opposition, which is totally false “, he said.

The Senegalese MP also highlighted that the meeting brought together eight civil society organizations and four political parties. “ Even if I had encountered opposition, it would not have constituted a crime “, he protested, while revealing that his formal request to obtain a meeting room to meet Togolese unions had remained unanswered. from the ECOWAS Parliament.

He sees this as proof of “collusion” between the Parliament office and the regime in place in Togo. On the day of the meeting, Sunday September 29, gendarmes were deployed in front of the party headquarters where it was to be held. “ Torture was inflicted publicly », deplored Guy Marius Sagna, worrying about the violence perpetrated in broad daylight against Togolese citizens.

« If such brutality can happen in plain sight, what is happening in the shadows? “, he asked himself. The MP concluded by reaffirming that, contrary to information circulating, no official ban had been issued regarding his meeting.

« This is all part of an orchestrated plan to prevent this dialogue », he denounced, while reiterating his determination to defend the rights of the people he represents. Guy Marius Sagna also strongly condemned the violence he witnessed, calling for justice for the Togolese people.
