It is with great pride that the president of the University of Quebec, Mr. Alexandre Cloutier, and the ten heads of establishments recognized and celebrated the talents of several members of the university community yesterday, during the Excellence ceremony 2024 which took place at the Roland-Arpin auditorium of the Musée de la civilization, in Quebec.

During the ceremony, eight Excellence Awards were presented. These awards, whose applications received were evaluated by an external jury and ratified by the Assembly of Governors, highlight the contribution of the faculty, researchers and managers of the establishments of the University of Quebec to the achievement of the university mission. Excellence in Teaching Award, Achievement component
Professors Frédéric Banville and Daniel Milhomme distinguished themselves by setting up the Virtual Care Unit, a digital virtual reality environment which reproduces a hospital housing different specialties. This adaptable, scalable, realistic and secure educational tool offers a new way of teaching best practices by personalizing scenarios and making cases more complex as students progress through their academic journey. This tool also has great potential for collaboration with educational and hospital establishments. It offers a significant impact at all levels, both on training, on students and on practice, in addition to encouraging reflective action and very enriching opportunities for feedback among users (learners and teachers alike).

Excellence in Teaching Award, Leadership component
Professor Cathy Vézina distinguished herself by her enlightened and effective leadership both on the educational level and in terms of her administrative responsibilities as well as for her contribution to the positioning of the Teaching and Research Unit (UER) in creation and new media from UQAT on an international scale. The structuring impact of his commitment is felt both by his colleagues at the EBU, his students, and in his collaborative links with French university establishments. The special relationships she has been able to develop with the people around her and the efforts she puts into offering educational activities that encourage engagement have certainly contributed to the strong feeling of belonging that reigns with regard to the programs and from the creation and new media department of UQAT.

Prize for Excellence in Research and Creation, Achievement component
Full professor Nicola Hagemeister received this distinction for the publication in the scientific journal Postgraduate Medicine of a large clinical study on knee osteoarthritis. The remarkable work that led to the creation of knee imaging, which is similar to an electrocardiogram of the knee, involved several specialists and hundreds of patients across the four corners of Quebec. The program demonstrated a high degree of satisfaction with the technology tested and a significant improvement in people’s conditions and their functional and objective test results. Marketed in 2019 by Emovi under the name KneeKG®, the kneegraphy device has since enjoyed resounding media success, but above all remarkable clinical and economic benefits. This disruptive technology is now available in around sixty hospitals and clinics in eight countries.

Prize for excellence in research and creation, Leadership component
Professor Roberto Morandotti received this award in recognition of his undisputed leadership in the field of photonics and nonlinear optics. Its contribution to the advancement of knowledge and Quebec’s research and development capacity in cutting-edge fields is undeniable. His international work has led to major advances in several fields of application such as telecommunications, quantum computing, spectroscopy and artificial intelligence. Holder of the Canada Research Chair in Intelligent Photonics, he explores, among other things, how quantum phenomena can provide new ways to support the development of a less energy-intensive and more efficient Internet of Things network. This award also highlights the exceptional nature of his career as well as his contribution to the training of a high-calibre future of science.

Emerging Excellence Award
Professor Marie-Pier Vaillancourt-Morel has distinguished herself by the excellence of her career and her clear societal impact through her work, the ultimate objective of which is to provide tools for the prevention, education and treatment of sexual difficulties. better suited to vulnerable populations or in clinical consultation contexts. The innovative nature of his research lies in the demonstration of the intrinsic link between sexual and marital problems in adulthood and the traumas experienced during childhood. She is also interested in adolescents by studying the impacts of pornography on their sexuality. This comprehensive, relevant and committed young researcher widely disseminates the knowledge resulting from her research and demonstrates a proven ability to establish numerous research collaborations with international experts in her field.

Partnership Excellence Award
Professor Nicole Fenton received this distinction for the development of a sustainable research partnership within the framework of the CRSNG-UQAT Industrial Research Chair on Biodiversity in a Mining Context. She was able to create an innovative partnership structure by bringing together various stakeholders around a space conducive to exchanges and by putting mining companies, First Peoples and governments on the same discussion footing. Its work aims in particular to encourage companies to adopt practices that are more concerned with the ecosystems in which their activities take place and to implement strategies to minimize or avoid impacts through mitigation measures and ecological planning, both in development projects as well as during site closures. This award also recognizes its sustained efforts to maintain a relationship of trust between the various stakeholders.

Management Excellence Award, Innovation component
Danny De Courval, assistant director of Student Life Services, received this recognition to highlight his exceptional professional career serving ÉTS since 2008. It recognizes in particular his leadership and his ability to form strong bonds of great collaboration for the benefit of the development of the ÉTS Sports Center as well as for the key role he played in the development of a physiotherapy clinic at the Sports Center. This award also highlights his contribution to the achievement of these innovations and his contribution to the objectives of his institution, such as the enrichment of the student career, the affirmation of the institution as an employer of choice, the growth in the number of students. athletes and the development of sports teams at ÉTS, as well as the establishment of partnerships for the use of infrastructure.

Excellence in Management Award, Career component
Director of Academic Support and Development Services at UQAM, Sylvie Quéré received this award in recognition of her exceptional professional career serving UQAM since 1991, and especially as an executive since 2010. It also recognizes her leadership , his determination and his impressive capacity for mobilization and innovation.
