A placomusophile is a person who collects barrels of champagne or crémant. The muselet is the plate found on all the corks of the bottles in question.
However, there is in Villers-Bocage, in Calvados, an association dedicated to placomusophiles: the collectors from Pré-Bocage. Around thirty members are grouped there, and meet every third Thursday of each month in a reserved room where they carry out exchanges with each other.
“I started my collection more than 10 years ago, and I count 26,000 barrels of champagne », Testifies Fabrice Alain, one of the collectors.
A little further, Catherine Lemonnier comes from Caen. “I have been collecting muzzles for around ten years with more than 8,000 pieces, it was a friend who made me want to collect them. »
Collections of more than 30,000 pieces
Some Villersois placomusophiles have a collection of 30,000 wire caps, or even more. You should know that all wire caps have a rating listed on a specific catalogwhich can range from 80 cents to more than 100 euros.
Most collectors do not sell, but simply exchange items of the same value with each other.
It is not a business, but a passion : they are always looking for the muzzle that they do not have.
Two meetings per year
Every year, the Pré-Bocage collectors’ association organizes its traditional stock Exchange on Ascension Thursday, i.e. this Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the Épinay-sur-Odon room, exclusively reserved for placomusophiles.
They come from all over France, mainly from the West and the Paris region, and this allows you to meet new collectors. We also organize a show for all collections in November at the Richard-Lenoir center. I would like to point out that we accept all collectors who wish to join us on the 3rd Thursday of the month at Place de Gaulle.
