« The Sonko-Diomaye tandem, since their accession to the supreme office, has carried out multiple acts which undermine our democracy. Before our eyes, they are transforming our democratic system into an authoritarian system“, denounced the Takku Wallu Senegaal Coalition. In a press release sent to Senego, Macky Sall and Co denounce the “ abusive arrests and arrests of politicians and journalists« .

« We note, to denounce it, that all opposition demonstrations are systematically banned. But more serious, to hide their negligence, the regime has decided to muzzle the opposition and the press by arresting all Senegalese politicians or journalists who critically assess the government’s actions. All those who address the people by informing them accurately are intimidated by police practices whose sole purpose is to silence them.“, notes the opposition coalition.

Who continues: “ Indeed, the list is already long and yet not exhaustive for just 7 months of governance: Bah Diakhaté, Cheikh Tidiane Ndao, Ameth Suzanne Camara, Kader Dia, Commissioner Keïta, Cheikh Yérim Seck, Lat Diop, Dieguy Diop, Bougane Gueye Dany. These practices from another age seem to us symptomatic of the democratic ignorance and the nameless intolerance which are unfortunately beginning to illustrate the governance of the country’s new authorities. This vile method only has the merit of exposing the curious relationship that the Sonko mooy Diomaye tandem has with freedom of expression« .

According to the members of the coalition, “ if the objective is to silence opponents, journalists, columnists and all dissenting voices against this regime incapable of putting in place suitable solutions for the daily experiences of the Senegalese, it is naturally a wasted effort. This whole wave of arrests constitutes a real attack on the freedom of expression guaranteed by our Constitution« .

Therefore, la Coalition TAKKU WALLU SENEGAAL « demands that this regime ipso facto stop these abuses which can only lead to regrettable situations. Ultimately, let it be understood and noted that intimidation will not pass and that all active forces will stand up to protect freedoms
individual and collective acquired through great struggles« .
