The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, ordered, during the Council of Ministers held on Wednesday October 2, 2024, the immediate launch of a vast program for the absorption of temporary shelters and the rehabilitation of educational establishments. This program aims to build educational infrastructure that meets standards, in order to improve teaching and learning conditions across the country.

According to the press release which sanctioned the meeting at the Palais de la République, this decision is part of the government’s desire to restore the national education system and guarantee a framework conducive to the development of Senegalese students.

The Head of State also insisted on the urgency of finalizing a new National Education and Training Program. This program must integrate the historical and cultural values of Senegal while being in line with the challenges of digital technology and artificial intelligence.

“This new school model must train students in scientific, technical and technological skills, while promoting good citizenship, citizenship and national languages, with an openness to universal foreign languages,” underlined President Faye.

He also congratulated the Prime Minister and the ministers concerned for the efforts already undertaken to restore and modernize the education system, while welcoming the climate of consensus and the trust established with the social partners.

This program of major education reforms, supported by a strong commitment from the State, should make it possible to meet the challenges of development and prepare Senegalese youth for the realities of the contemporary world.
