It must be said that Dion has already amassed five points, including four goals. His contribution, remarkable so far, is the talk of those around the team.

“It’s true that things are going well,” explains the young man, who comes from Sainte-Catherine. But honestly, I’m a little surprised myself. Playing with players of the quality of Zachary Benefon and Isaac-Olivier Yalessa-Ockandi helps greatly, however. I’m happy with how it’s going, but it has to continue.”

Product of the Riverains du Collège Charles-LeMoyne, of the M18 AAA League, Dion chose college hockey last season. But it was only in the playoffs, with the Boomerang from Cégep André-Laurendeau, that he discovered his scoring talents.

“We won the playoff championship and I scored nine goals in 14 games. Currently, the confidence is there, I surf on that.”

That said, Dion defines himself first and foremost as a player who is there to disturb. Whether in midget hopefuls, M18 AAA or college, he always obtained more penalty minutes than he played matches.

“For several years, I have regularly attended Bisons games, in the Senior AAA League, with my father. It inspires me a lot. It’s big hockey and the game is robust. I like that and I try to bring a little bit of that game– there in my own game.”

The smile found

No, Samuel Dion had no fun in Saskatchewan. In Granby, with Indigo, the 18-year-old athlete found his smile again.

“I wasn’t comfortable there. There was nothing to do outside of hockey and I lived in a special, very religious family. In Granby, I’m having fun, the guys are fun in the locker room, it’s another world.”

The Indigo has won its last three games, including two last weekend, and Dion believes his new team has potential for trouble.

“We have talent, the attitude is good and we feel good coached. It’s all new, but I like playing for Scott [Colosimo]who knows his hockey. We won’t win them all, but I think we have what it takes to have a great winter.”

Granby hockey fans will have the opportunity to see Dion and the Indigo (4-3) in action twice this weekend, Saturday evening while the Collège Français de Longueuil (5-3) will be in action. city and Sunday afternoon with the visit of the Princeville Titan (0-6).
