Vandalized, this statue of La Chaux-de-Fonds will be moved

This time, it’s too much. Following several acts of vandalism, the last of which during the night from Monday to Tuesday, the Town Planning Department of the City of La Chaux-de-Fonds decided to temporarily remove the sculpture L’Enfant au from the Museum Park. hoop. Regularly damaged and overturned, it will be kept safe until the park’s redevelopment work takes place. Consideration is underway as to the exact location which will house the statue after work. Created in 1935 by André Huguenin-Dumittan, this bronze work was offered to the City by the artist himself.

The town planning department believes that the reason for these acts of vandalism is that: “the statue is quite small and light, and its base is relatively narrow. It is therefore not very difficult to bring it down. For comparison, we have never had a problem with the other works of this artist, exhibited in town,” explains Sylvie Pipoz, delegate for heritage promotion. In addition, the latter emphasizes that: “the aim of this communication is above all that the Chaux-de-Fonniers do not imagine that it was stolen.”
